The Church Periodical Club has been in
existence since the late 1800’s and is still a
very important part of our outreach by bringing the printed word
to Church people
throughout the world. This ministry is vital to persons in remote
parts of the world,
and we are called to bring the word of the Lord to these
persons so they can assist
others in getting to know Christ through the written word.
We can assist our little children to
understand the need and how they can be a part of
meeting that need by introducing them to The Mile of Pennies
Program. Please
consider this as a part of your Sunday School program. I really
would like to have the
opportunity to explain this program to you.
As your new CPC Representative I am
looking forward to having your parish a part of
this ministry. Please keep this ministry in your prayers.
May God bless.
Dorothy E. Smith
Diocesan CPC Representative
Bless, O Lord, The Church Periodical Club
that it may be an instrument
for the spread of your word throughout the world.
Grant to its officers wisdom and patience,
to its members perseverance
and the sprit of sharing that asks no return.
Bring many more to take part in
its work of service. Bless our gifts
and those who receive them to the
enrichment of individual lives that we
may all be servants of the risen Lord. Amen

Diocese of
The Girls’
Friendly Society of Connecticut is alive and well with three active branches:
We have been
busy with weekly and biweekly branch meetings as well as
diocesan events for all to participate in.
In spring 2009, celebrating
Creative Arts Day, the girls attended the musical, “
Goodspeed Opera House.
Creative Arts Day is a day on which the girls gather for some type of “art”
focused project or activity. This year we decided to take the girls
out to give them a taste of a
“Broadway”
musical right in their own backyard! The girls and women who attended had such
a good
time that we are planning on going again in 2010!
In October, GFS
celebrated World Day of Prayer at a service at St. James’s Church,
World Day of Prayer
Service was put together by GFS in
projects. The service was then adapted for our celebration. What a
special day for GFS!
Also in October, the Girls Friendly Society was asked to create centerpieces
for the candidates for
Bishop’s
Candidates dinner held at Diocesan House. We were happy to comply. Fall
arrangements
were created by a group of us and delivered for the event.
We now look forward to
our winter program for 2010. The girls are having their annual junk food
buffet, movie night, sleepover at Grace and St. Peter’s in
involved. The girls really look forward to a night where they can
actually wear pajamas at church! Our
Winter Board Meeting
is being held on January 16, 2010 at Grace and St. Peter’s. We will
approve our
budget for the year and begin discussions regarding travel plans
to
delegate to National Assembly.
GFS
National Assembly June 2010:
This year our National Assembly meeting will be held at
various concerns of our organization both here and across the
globe. Among other activities, such as
workshops and community outreach, we will have day trips to
Disneyland and
National Assembly is
held a year prior to our World Council meeting, which will be held in
2011. More
information will follow!
In the meantime, our
groups are busy with fundraisers to help fund their travel expenses to
and
We
thank the ECW for
their generous yearly contributions to GFS Connecticut which will help us to
continue programs designed to develop girls’ sense of service
and outreach in their parishes, this state
and the world.
